The BLG Logistics Group has developed into a globally active logistics provider with a strong local base. Their customers include leading German car manufacturers as well as strong brands from the retail sector. With their logistics solutions, they represent an important interface for the success of their customers. No matter how complex the task, customers are looking for a simple solution. The growing company provides around 16,000 jobs worldwide, more than half of them in Bremen and Bremerhaven. This results in a high level of responsibility for the region. The competence of its employees is a key success factor.
Task
Risk management within the BLG Logistics Group plays an important role in the company. It is an instrument of corporate management to avoid threats to the company's existence and to make the risk situation transparent. Therefore, concrete goals of the future risk & opportunity management software solution were already defined in the tender process, such as creating transparency about the risk situation, fulfilling the early warning and forecasting function through scenarios and simulations, fulfilling legal requirements and conditions, as well as supporting the control capability by identifying and tracking potential opportunities and risks.
Before the software solution was introduced, the risk inventory was carried out on the basis of Excel. After an intensive tendering and selection phase, the BLG Logistics Group decided in favour of antares RiMIS®. Criteria relevant to the decision were the optimised, flexible and meaningful reporting system, as well as the mapping of the complete process in the risk management area and the low maintenance effort.
Solution
Based on this, the software solution with an individual reporting system was developed as quickly as possible and implemented in the business processes. The implementation took place within the given deadline. The go-live was completed within half a year, for example. The simple operation is made possible by a modern and self-explanatory look. Group-wide reporting can be created promptly and automatically via the solution in various formats, such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint or PDF. In addition, the documentation for the impairment test is supported at BLG Logistics. Data from upstream and downstream systems can be easily integrated for further use within the risk and opportunity process (e.g. LucaNet and SAP FI).
Practical benefit
As the BLG Logistics Group has a complex corporate structure, it is all the more important to ensure risk aggregation at all levels (risk owner, risk class, company, segment, division). The overview of diverse risks from different logistics areas (sea & land) is given. With antares RiMIS® a quick risk prevention is possible for the first time by recording and evaluating future risks, e.g. from long-term contracts. The individual reporting system facilitates the complete reporting many times over. Another advantage is the multi-year view, on the basis of which measures for corporate management are developed. In short, an integrated risk and opportunity management system has been created to support entrepreneurial decisions. The future possibility of expansion into a uniform, integrated GRC system is in the foreground. Through effective risk management, strategic and operational opportunities are used to ensure profitable growth.
