Newlat GmbH

In 2014, the German Newlat GmbH was founded as a subsidiary of the Swiss Newlat Group S.A., which has its headquarters in Lugano. As a hub for the German, Northern and Eastern European markets, Newlat GmbH is an essential part of the parent company's international orientation. It is based in Mannheim and employs around 130 people with the pasta brands 3 GLOCKEN and Birkel.

Task

The cooperation with Newlat GmbH goes back to 2003, when Birkel Teigwaren GmbH (since 2014 Newlat brand), the largest pasta producer in Germany at the time, was looking for a way to better evaluate and visualise its data.

Initially, Birkel needed extensive analysis and planning software to evaluate data, gain important information for decision-making and visualise it via reporting. The decisive criteria for the decision were the OLAP database technology, the user-oriented planning system and the meaningful simulation option in order to be able to make business decisions quickly and reliably based on current information.

Birkel quickly decided in favour of the antares software solutions. With the use of the analysis software (antares analyzer) and planning software (antares planner), the requirements for a new data evaluation and planning system were fully met. The advantage was that information was available across departments and transparency about purchasing, production and sales processes was guaranteed.

Solution

With the increase in data diversity and due to the fast-moving market, antares adapted and implemented various software modules for Birkel within the scope of individual projects. Special attention was paid to the condition planning in the company and the potential for an own software solution was quickly recognised. This cooperation resulted in the industry-specific software solution ConsumerGoodsBI, geared to the needs of consumer goods manufacturers. Three important topics came into consideration as the basis for the ConsumerGoodsBI software solution from the many years of experience: cost planning, price list integration and condition planning.

All in all, the overview of the respective conditions in purchasing and sales as well as across various distribution channels is guaranteed. This has the advantage that not only turnover and sales planning but also condition planning can be viewed down to article level. Thus, the user receives the answer to the question: What happens if I grant the distributor XY % discount? This creates unprecedented transparency at the article, price and condition level.

Practical benefit

When planning costs, the user is informed about the actual value of the item. In addition to discounts, advertising allowances can also be included. With the scenario technology, the annual negotiation with discounters can be conducted confidently. Based on assumptions and competitive comparisons, this contributes to self-reflection and thus sets realistic discounts.

In summary, a reliable, meaningful information basis is created. Thanks to the multi-level approach to condition planning, the highest possible flexibility in the introduction of new conditions is made possible. In the course of regular condition negotiations with customers, the calculations can be started manually at any time and operating results can be simulated.
