Wernsing Food Family

The history of the Wernsing company begins in 1962 in Addrup, Lower Saxony, when Heinrich Wernsing founded a production facility for French fries. This laid the foundation for a success story in the course of which the small family business became a modern, dynamic and responsibly acting group.

Today, the Wernsing Group of Companies has production facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark and Sweden and has expanded its export business throughout Europe. One thing, however, remains the same: an open-minded approach to innovative techniques and the pursuit of consistent quality. This has made Wernsing one of the leading manufacturers in this industry.

Task

The cooperation with the Wernsing Food Family goes back to 2002, when Popp Feinkost GmbH (a Wernsing Food Family member since 1988) was looking for a way to better visualise its data. The challenge was to get an overview of all data relevant to control. Up to this point, there was no solution in the company in which all data was comprehensively presented. The related manual consolidation of the data was laborious and time-consuming.

Solution

An OLAP database (Online Analytical Processing) was implemented as a solution. By using the antares analyzer software, a multidimensional view of data sets was possible for the first time. During the implementation, great care was taken to ensure a flexible and simple user interface with cross-departmental use.

In the next step, the planning software antares planner was used. The solution creates a standardised platform for making quick and reliable decisions based on sales and production planning. Therefore, this solution is often used in practice as a sales solution and adapts to the needs of the sales staff.

Practical benefit

First and foremost, the solution offering provides a way to quickly obtain information about relevant production (actual-target production) and company key figures. The consolidation of information and data from different areas, such as purchasing and production, is of great importance for sales and production process planning. The multi-dimensional database is used to retrieve cross-departmental and cross-divisional information and data so that a need for action can be identified and processes optimised.

Before the antares software solutions were used, various data were collected manually, which was time-consuming and nerve-racking. Nowadays, information and data are available at the push of a button, especially since the compilation is fully automated. The production steps and figures are listed as desired. This saves time and prevents the susceptibility to errors.

The software solutions are web-based (HTML5), which guarantees decentralised use by different users, at any time and from any place. This means that the user is no longer tied to a specific place or time, but can access information and data flexibly, even via mobile devices.

The functionality, flexibility and ease of use of the solution have convinced another 10 members of the Wernsing Food Family to date. The timeline expresses the long-standing and reliable cooperation between antares and the Wernsing Food Family.
